Eureka Springs Destination Guide
Located in the Ozark Mountains of Northwest Arkansas is the city of Eureka Springs. Recognized as an arts destination, Eureka Springs has a broad variety of art galleries and events. The downtown area in Eureka Springs was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1970. Because of the picturesque mountainside along with over 60 natural springs, many tourists come to the peaceful community of Eureka. After spending several fall days here exploring, here’s a list of well-known places we’d recommend.
1886 Crescent Hotel & Spa
The landmark hotel has become known as America’s Most Haunted Hotel. The Crescent Hotel is on top of the Pig Trail. The hotel features events, weddings, spa services, and more. When dining in Eureka Springs, we had brunch in the Crystal Dining Room at the Crescent Hotel. The brunch was buffet style with full breakfast offerings along with prime rib, salad, and dessert. It was one of the best brunch buffet’s we’ve had, not to mention the elegant setting with spectacular mountain views!
Ermilio’s Italian
Ermilio’s Italian is a staple in Eureka Springs. The restaurant serves comforting, home-cooked Italian. It’s located in a historic home, where the tables are seated close together giving a vintage/antique vibe. We enjoyed a drink upstairs while we waited for our table. (There is almost always a wait here!) After we were seated at our table, the friendly waitress brought out garlic bread. We shared a dinner size Caesars salad. And for the entrees, I had the Tuscan Chicken Pasta and my husband had Chicken Parmesan. The portions were good size and everything was delicious!
Mud Street Cafe
On our final morning in Eureka Springs, we walked down to Mud Street Cafe for coffee and breakfast. I enjoyed a mocha and the chef’s scramble. My husband had an orange juice and the breakfast wrap.
Oscar’s Cafe
In this quaint little cafe, you order at the counter and then find a seat at a table. We walked to Oscar’s Cafe early one morning, so we arrived before the rush. Since it was a nice fall day, we enjoyed our latte’s and breakfast on the front patio.
Gaskins Cabin steakhouse
After a short scenic drive down the highway, we found Gaskins Cabin Steakhouse, which is in an original 1864 log cabin. We dined here the first evening we were in town. This restaurant has a unique atmosphere – it’s causal but also has an ambiance of fine dining. Their prime rib is a popular choice among guests because it is superb!
Keels Creek Winery
The wine tasting room at Keels Creek is low-key and simple. My husband and I had an enjoyable, educational tasting experience on our visit. And, we purchased a few bottles of wine to take home.
Railway Winery
Just outside of Eureka Springs near Beaver Bridge is a lovely little small farm winery. On a beautiful fall day we stopped in Railway Winery for a wine tasting, and after chatting with the owners, we also tried some local beers they had on tap. The wine was great and there is a nice patio deck to sit out and enjoy your wine, beer, or even a picnic. The owners were such friendly folks and we had a wonderful experience!
Where to stay in Eureka?
Through VRBO, we rented a little cottage located on historic East Mountain. It was a very quaint area, and a nice location to get to downtown. Just up the road from the cottage, there was a stairway which led down to Main Street in Eureka Springs. There were also a number of walking trails nearby.
Eureka Springs was a great fall getaway!
