The Best Experiences in Phoenix, AZ
My husband and I spent a few days in Phoenix, Arizona this summer. From sporting events to museums and fantastic food, we had the best experiences on our trip!
Sports
Baseball lovers flock to Phoenix in February and March for Spring Training. During this time over 200 baseball games are played by 15 major league teams across 10 stadiums throughout the area. In fact, our VRBO was located in Litchfield Park, which was just a short drive to one of the spring training stadiums.
During one afternoon, we went to see the Arizona Diamondbacks play the St. Louis Cardinals Chase Field.
Since it was summer, the Arizona State Sun Devils didn’t have a baseball game but we were able to see their stadium.
When NFL is playing, visitors can go to an Arizona Cardinals football game.
Museum
The world’s largest historical firefighting museum is located in Phoenix. We visited the Hall of Flame Firefighting Museum one afternoon. Inside there is over a hundred fire trucks and a number of exhibits, including a section dedicated to the heroes that lost their lives on 9-11. The exhibits provide a wonderful learning experience into the history firefighting and the important service fire departments provide to communities.
Scottsdale
We spent part of one day in Old Town Scottsdale, walking through the unique area lined with shops and restaurants. Then, we visited the Scottsdale Fashion Square, which features luxury shops along with entertainment and dining options. Afterwards, we drove to TPC Scottsdale Stadium Course, home of the Waste Management Phoenix Open every February.
Dining
For breakfast one morning, we dined at Joe’s Farm Grill, located in Gilbert, Arizona. It is on the premise of the Farm at Agritopia and was was featured on DDD. My husband had the Waffles and Chicken while I devoured the Four-Cheese Omelet.
On our first evening in town we found Windsor, a local neighborhood bar and restaurant. To start, we shared their yummy deviled egg dip & chips. I had their country vegetable chop salad, which includes crispy fried okra. Mmmm! And my husband had the pastrami Reuben with mac & cheese as the side. We were sure glad we found this neighborhood gem!
After reading about Rito’s in a travel magazine, I knew we had too try their authentic Mexican fare. The establishment has been around for decades and they are known for their green chile burritos, which are delicious! There are several locations throughout the Phoenix metroplex.
Wigwam Arizona was just a few blocks from our VRBO location. The resort has a spa, outdoor pools, a nice golf course and a tennis club along with restaurants and shops. We enjoyed beverages at TCBC one afternoon along with dessert at Red Allen’s Bar and Grill one evening.
Nearby, Sedona also has a number of outdoor experiences and attractions. And for foodies, Flagstaff has many fantastic local restaurants!
