Lookout Mountain at Ruby Falls
Another historic site in Tennessee is Lookout Mountain, which played a significant part in the Civil War. The Battle of Lookout Mountain is represented at Point Park. The Lookout Mountain area includes three world-famous attractions. Ruby Falls, the deepest and tallest waterfall in the U.S. The Incline Railway, with trolley-style rail cars, that is the World’s Steepest Passenger Railway. And, Rock City, which is 1700 feet above sea level.
Each natural wonder has breathtaking scenic views! And at the base of Lookout Mountain is the St. Elmo Historic Area, featuring Victorian homes along with quaint shops and restaurants.
Walnut Street Bridge
What began as a highway bridge many years ago, is now one of the world’s longest pedestrian bridges. The Walnut Street Bridge was completed in 1891 but was closed to traffic in 1978 . It was restored as a pedestrian walkway in 1993. This landmark crosses over the Tennessee River. It’s a popular attraction among locals with the spectacular 360 degree views of the downtown riverfront in Chattanooga.
Downtown Chattanooga
Did you know that the moon pie was invented in Chattanooga over a century ago? Located in downtown Chattanooga is the Moon Pie General Store. Here you will find a variety of flavors of moon pies along with other merchandise. Also in downtown Chattanooga is the Chattanooga Choo Choo complex, which is the old terminal station. The complex houses a hotel, retail shops, bars and restaurants, music venues, a distillery, and a comedy club.
