How to Spend a Day in Fort Collins

Morning

After arriving in town we found a lovely cafe near downtown Fort Collins. Lucile’s Creole Cafe began in 1980 and has several locations throughout Colorado. The location in Fort Collins was the second one that opened in the state. Their New Orleans style beignets are a great start to breakfast/brunch! We enjoyed them while dining on the lovely outdoor patio.

Mid-Day

Colorado State University is located in Fort Collins. We ventured around the campus, and strolled through the flower gardens. In fact, CSU is known for it’s annual flower trial garden.

Fort Collins is also a place with a great craft brewery scene, including the well-known New Belgium Brewing Co. We took a daytime tour of New Belgium during our time here. The 90-minute guided tour takes guests through the history and entire brewing process. It was interesting to learn how the brewery was started and also how it’s grown through the decades. Did you know that each employee gets a Fat Tire bike on their 1-year anniversary with the company? How cool!!!

Early Evening

Perusing through historic downtown Fort Collins, we found a number of shops, restaurants, and breweries. We also noticed many bicycles throughout town. Fort Collins is a bike-friendly city, where many locals travel by bike. In addition to bicycling, this Colorado mountain town offers plenty of outdoor attractions. Visitors can find a nearby trail or lake for activities including fishing, hiking, and camping.

Although our home base was in Denver during this trip, there are a number of vacation rentals located in Fort Collins. For more on Colorado, check out our posts on Colorado Springs, Denver, and Golden!
