How to Spend a Day in New Haven, Missouri

New Haven is a small town in Missouri along the Missouri River. Once a riverboat stop, the town of New Haven was founded in 1856. The population is around 2,300 and the town is a little less than an hour from St. Louis. In fact, the Lewis and Clark Expedition passed by New Haven in the early 1800’s.

We spent the beginning of our day in New Haven strolling around the downtown shops on Front Street. We passed by a glass studio along with a movie theater, the Walt Theater. Then we made our way around the corner, passing by a coffee shop, brewery, and more.

Next, we ventured around the corner to Pinckney Bend Distillery where we enjoyed learning about their distillery through a tasting. Being the only ones in the establishment, we had a private tasting where we not only learned about how the distillery began but also history of the town of New Haven.

A short 10 minute scenic drive took us from downtown New Haven to Robller Winery. It is one of the stops on the Hermann Wine Trail. As we arrived to the winery, we drove pass rows and rows of vines. The owner of the winery greeted us as we walked up to the building. Inside, we chatted with the lady working at the counter and she got to know our wine preferences. We selected two different tastings of dry reds, which were placed in little containers and labeled. Then each of us received one of their wine glasses, and we made our way outside onto the patio area. We sat at a picnic table to enjoy the beautiful, sunny afternoon. We sipped our wine, admiring the views of the vineyard throughout the property. Of course, a purchase of wine was in order before we left.

Although their is a hotel in New Haven’s downtown area, our vacation rental was just a little over 30 minutes from the town. There were several listings on VRBO in the New Haven area. We will definitely check them out when we make a return visit!
